Who is Reba Rambo?
About Reba Rambo Ministries

Since 1964, Reba Rambo has been traveling the world, ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ.

She joined her parents, Buck and Dottie Rambo, at the age of twelve, becoming an integral part of their group, The Singing Rambos. She watched their ministry expand from singing in small churches, traveling from city to city in a small car, to large concert halls, performing for soldiers during the Vietnam War, and becoming one of the leading southern gospel groups of the sixties and seventies. As her mother’s songs quickly became standards, eventually making their way into hymnals, Reba began writing songs of her own.

At just fifteen, Reba began breaking new ground as a solo artist, recording folk music with a gospel message. Having grown up hearing about God’s wrath and vengeance, she sought to share about God’s love and redemption. Her work as a solo artist blossomed as she helped innovate what would become known as Contemporary Christian Music, writing with Mylon LeFevre, one of the fathers of Christian rock and appearing in England with The Imperials and British pop star Cliff Richard. She became involved in the Jesus Movement, performing at the movement’s seminal Explo ‘72 and touring with Andraé Crouch & The Disciples for nearly two years, which revolutionized her life and music.

Her 1976 album, Lady, earned a Grammy nomination and a Dove Award in 1977 and became one of Christian music’s best-selling albums by a female artist for the entire decade. The album contained the worship song, “Lift Him Up,” which quickly became a favorite among congregations around the world.

She blazed a trail for contemporary Christian artists seeking to take the message outside of the church, with performances on college campuses and in music venues like Nashville’s famed Exit/In that had never presented Christian artists before, appearances on the programs like Mike Douglas Show and the Jerry Lewis Telethon. She performed on the Grammy Awards in 1981 and won the award for Best Gospel Performance, Contemporary or Inspirational for The Lord’s Prayer, a musical she co-wrote with Dony McGuire.

As Contemporary Christian Music  shifted in the eighties, so did she. She re-focused on church-based music ministry, co-writing the musical The Bride, which introduced themes of spiritual warfare and kingdom building in song and theatrical presentation. She became a regular on Trinity Broadcasting Network for almost two decades, and ministered in churches and conferences internationally as a singer and speaker with and for a cross-denominational roster of leaders including James Robison, Robert Schuller, Tommy Tenney, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Benny Hinn, Pastor Rod Parsley, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, and Pastor Dan Willis.

Today, Reba continues to record, write songs for others and minister globally. Her compositions have been recorded by Donna Summer, Amy Grant, Debby Boone, Sandi Patty, Natalie Cole, the Bill Gaither Trio, the Gaither Vocal Band, Ron Kenoly, David and Nicole Binion, Judy Jacobs, Angela Primm, Michael English, Mark Lowry and countless others. She is the mother of two children, Destiny Rambo Khouri and Israel Rambo Anthem.

She told The Tennessean in 1980, “We work on the basis that God is love,” and her intention has not changed. “God is love and I’m His child so my intrinsic DNA is love,” she says today. “I’m learning daily His love in me is unconditional and infinite.” She seeks to share and, most importantly, be the love of God to everyone she encounters. As she enters her 60 th year of ministry, she says, “I am overwhelmed by the goodness of God throughout the entire journey. I’m so excited about the future. I feel like I’m just getting started and the greatest adventures are ahead!”
